3 Mindfulness Skills for Spiritual Growth

Mindfulness in spirituality is the practice of being fully aware in the present moment. It is a skill that needs to be cultivated and it is used to try to get a deeper connection with yourself. You will learn about your own brain and your own thought process. Mindfulness stops you from worrying about the past or the future and lets you focus on the present moment. Using these three skills for mindfulness for spiritual growth below, you will learn about your own mind.

Focus and Concentration

Mindfulness is the act of being fully aware in the present moment. This requires your brain to stop wandering and to stop coming up with different thoughts that are not related to the present moment. By training your brain to focus and concentrate, you will be able to stay present and not get distracted by thoughts. You can use techniques like mediation or deep breathing to quiet your mind and strengthen your concentration skills.

Awareness

While you are mindfully paying attention to the present moment, it is also important to observe your thoughts and emotions. Observe negative thoughts or emotions and let go of them. Observe positive thoughts or emotions and encourage more. Be aware of how your mind and body reacts in certain situations. This awareness will deepen your connection with yourself and strengthen your intuition  . Practicing awareness will help you develop a sense of peace.

Self Reflection

Overtime, by practicing concentration and awareness, you will be able to stay in the present moment without being distracted. Overtime, you will be aware of your body and your mind.  You will learn about your own brain and how it reacts in different situations. It is important to take note of what you’ve learned so that you can make better choices in the future. However, how you reflect is up to you! Journaling and meditation are some common reflecting tools. By reflecting on your thoughts, you can identify patterns or triggers.
